High-quality personal and ecological products for the gentle burial of pets

The new and innovative Unifier is launching ecological and durable caskets and urns for the burial and cremation of pets of all kinds. Unifier’s Kehto caskets and Lehto urns are manufactured from recycled materials and their small carbon footprint makes them environmentally friendly. The products represent Finnish design and they are handmade in Finland.

“The idea for our products came from the realisation that it was impossible to find pet burial products that satisfy high standards for quality, aesthetics and ecology. Pets are precious to us and we want our products to provide a sense of dignity and respect at the end of a pet’s life. Our Kehto and Lehto product families are the result of a long development process based on the key criteria identified in our market research, namely ecology, ease of use, high quality and safety,” says Olli-Pekka Kinnunen, Head of Sales and Marketing at Unifier. “Kehto caskets are designed to be lightweight, durable and safe, making them easy to handle and transport. They also withstand public transport, as deceased pets are often transported by crematories or in mass transit.”

In addition to satisfying the criteria identified in Unifier’s research, the products represent design that deviates from the bleak, religious and angular aesthetics that burial products are traditionally associated with. One of the most significant aspects of the design of the products is that their aesthetic message is not focused on death. “Our gentler concept means that the products have a more rounded shape, making them more approachable, less intimidating and less sorrowful,” Kinnunen explains.

The Kehto product family comprises caskets in six sizes for pets ranging from small rodents to large dogs. The Lehto product family includes three different sizes. “Our priority is to facilitate a gentle and caring burial or cremation for all pets, from small birds, reptiles and rodents to cats and dogs,” Kinnunen adds.

“People today invest in the wellbeing of their pets and see them as family members. There are many branded products for pets to support their health and hobbies, but there was a lack of products for the sad but significant moment of a pet passing away,” Kinnunen says. According to Statistics Finland, there were more than one million pets in Finland in 2012. Estimates indicate that the number of pets that pass away each year is approximately 10 per cent of the total.

The products will be available in Unifier’s online store from 4 November 2015.
